Stripes!

If you haven't noticed - stripes are everywhere this year in the world of fashion.
Little Stripes
Big Stripes
Multi-colored stripes

So....go buy a striped shirt, pretend you own a boat and you going boating this afternoon! Dress it up with a scarf, jacket in a different color, or a chunky necklace. Yes, you can mix patterns. So if you are feeling crazy wear stripes and polka-dots together!

Go Nautical!

Taran's 4 Month Birthday!

I can't believe 4 months ago my baby girl was born. In fact it was within the hour - 4 months ago. This sweet little girl had brought so much joy to my life! (and Collin's) I love her sweet smile and everyday her personality blossoms  more and more. She babbles and coo's all the time. My favorite thing is when you go in to get her up from sleeping and she sees you, she gets the biggest grin on her face!

Christmas 2011

First Christmas with Taran!
Even though she didn't really know what was going on - we had so much fun. This picture was taken on Christmas morning after church at my grandparents. I must say - she is too cute! Bless her heart - those white tights were huge on her and her little silver shoes wouldn't stay on even with cotton balls in the end of them. (She is 3 months old in this picture and what she has on is all newborn size.)

(love those little round cheeks)

Hope your Christmas was as blessed as mine!

Tricks of the Trade

I'm going to let you in on a couple of little secrets!

Going for a new look but you don't want to cut any length off....

- Go for "face framing!" It can give you a totally different look for minimal change.
- Part your hair on the other side. If it won't lay down smooth, bobby pin them back for a couple of days, especially when you get out of the shower. Sleep with the bobby pin in, love the bobby pin, become one with the bobby pin!
- LAYERS - need I say more? Okay maybe I do, layers add dimension and volume - plus they look great when curled.

Can't get your hair smooth after blow drying it? When you are about finished drying your hair - hit the cold button. All the hard work you did with brushing it while blow drying can be sealed with a quick press of the cold button. It seals it all in.

Natural curl - but always goes frizzy? - Touch it as little as possible while diffusing it! Curl cream is your friend   but down't forget to use smoothing serum too!

If you have any questions - feel free to ask!

Why?

Well….after talking with my sister Sarah, she requested that I write about why I wanted to start blogging. So I will enlighten all of you why I chose to give you a glimpse into my life…

It all started with the birth of my daughter, Taran. I didn’t really read blogs much because I work full time at Indian Creek Christian Church as an Admin. Assistant and after being on the computer all day I didn’t want to spend my evenings on the computer at home. But then I had this wonderful thing called “Maternity Leave” happen! I loved being home with Taran, but at the beginning she slept a lot, and that created time for me to peruse the blogging world. I wasn’t used to being at home all day and my husband Collin is a high school History teacher and then he is going to Law School every evening – so needless to say I had a lot of time to fill!  I started to really enjoy reading about the lives of other moms, crafters, photography, the people that can be super organized and resourceful with what God has given them, and of course other Hairstylists. I’m now back to work and missing my baby girl terribly, but I got to have something to do after she goes to bed and Collin is studying and I can only clean for so long!

I was and still am HOOKED!!!

What I know best is hair, and I’m learning how to be a mom each and every day so  I figure I will write about that and hopefully someone finds it insightful or maybe boring….but I’m hoping for the first!  You might think it’s odd that I would say that I felt like God was telling me to write – but it’s the truth. I’d like to think I’m an intelligent woman and God has put a lot on my heart lately so I’m hoping to share some of those thoughts with you all. Don’t worry it’s not going to be a bunch of mushy stuff either. There won’t be any rhyme or reason to what I post or in the order I post it in….just helpful hair tips, little things that I’m learning being a new mama, and finally fitting back into my pre-pregnancy clothes!

Hope you enjoy!!

A Few of My Favorite Things

So probably the best thing about being a hairstylist is getting that little card that gives me access to the professional supply stores filled with nothing but glorious and wonderful hair products. I might be a little obsessed, but I'll let you be the judge! From start to finish I use on average 6 different products when I wash and style my hair.

Step 1: Shampoo & Conditioner

it's a 10 is AMAZING! If it is possible to be addicted to hair product, this whole line is my addiction!

Step 2: it's a 10 miracle leave in product
I don't ever brush through my hair after I wash it without this stuff!

Step 3: K-Pak Color Therapy Restorative Styling Oil

I use this faithfully because my hair is color treated and to keep it healthy and manageable this is a great product. It also helps cut down dry time and with my thick hair it's a great bonus!

Step 4: Aquage Uplifting Foam

Step 5: Kenra 25 Volumizing Hairspray

So there you have it - my top favorite products! Products will make a night and day difference in your hair. If yours is unmanageable, TRY some different products. These will not work for everyone - it took awhile for me to get my routine down where all my products work together for a fabulous finished look!
